Environmental Management Plan
Diamond Head worked with The Tsleil-Waututh Nation (TWN), a British Columbia Coast Salish First Nations community of 616 Members, to improve their previous Environmental Management Plan as a response to increased pressure for land development and growing housing needs. DHC was tasked with creating an updated and focused EMP with environmental protection measures that reflect current knowledge on sustaining environmental health and resilience to climate change.
Project initiation kicked off in 2021 with a preliminary analysis and background research followed by various engagement workshops with the steering committee and community. An Environmental Baseline Assessment will identify important ecosystem values and select ecological indicators to monitor overtime. From the assessments, DHC will develop best practices for Environmental Priority Areas which includes recommendations, policies and implementation strategies. The EMP describes several short, medium- and long- term goals including, but not limited to, maintaining a healthy and diverse natural ecosystem, restoring sensitive areas containing wild foods and traditional medicinal plants, protecting wildlife and the ecosystem during land development.
