Tree Landscape Vision Plans + Canopy Cover Model
Diamond Head worked with the City of Calgary over two years to develop tree landscape visions for 25 communities and a canopy cover projection model to assist the City in planning its future planting program. The project involved analysis of tree inventory, health, guidelines and planting opportunities in streets and parks towards tree design plans and recommendations specific to each community. In addition, high level recommendations were made for entrance features, primary routes, individual parks and landscape redesign opportunities. We also analyzed the entire City’s planting opportunities and developed a canopy growth model to project the current canopy cover forward based on known mortality and growth rates. This model will inform the setting of a new canopy cover target for the City and provide staff with a tool to explore planned and actual tree planting rates over time, and their impact on achieving the City’s canopy cover goals.
