Environmentally Sensitive Areas (DPA2) Update (2023-ongoing)
Diamond Head has developed an updated report for the Environmentally Sensitive Areas Development Permit Area (DPA) of the Town of Gibsons. The original report was created by Thurber Engineering in 1991. Since then, the town has undergone significant changes, and the threats to natural areas have evolved. To identify the ESAs, Diamond Head staff conducted a survey of natural areas, which included the use of LiDAR data to refine forest canopy polygons and identify previously unmapped watercourses. The findings of the assessment and updated geospatial mapping were used to develop new DPA linework. The Town of Gibsons collaborated with Diamond Head to develop updated DPA guidelines that would better protect sensitive areas.
