Community Wildfire Protection Plan
DHC developed a Community Wildfire Protection Plan for the Regional District of the Sunshine Coast in partnership with the Town of Gibsons, District of Sechelt, and Shishalh First Nation. Rapid growth on the Sunshine Coast, low density development patterns, and forest health issues with climate change created a need for the project partners to reassess wildfire hazard across the region. As a value-added component of this plan DHC showed wildfire threat under historical (average) and trend (high fire weather index) annual conditions to demonstrate increasing hazard. The development of the plan used the current CRI program requirements and included a recommendation for developing a wildfire development permit area across the unincorporated areas of the Sunshine Coast Regional District.
