Community Wildfire Resiliency Plans for 3 Electoral Areas
Diamond Head was selected by the District to develop 7 Community Wildfire Resiliency Plans (CWRP) to refocus community wildfire management in BC by shifting the aim from fuel reduction on crown land towards a broader set of initiatives, including fuel management. Consistent with the seven disciplines of FireSmart, DHC has produced a holistic approach to managing wildfire risk.
The DHC team combined techniques such as LiDar/infrared interpretation and advanced fire behavior modelling with their in-depth knowledge of urban and native forest management, climate mitigation, and stakeholder consultation to produce an adaptable CWRP with appropriate strategies for policy tools, emergency planning, vegetation management, education and infrastructure development, to name a few.
