District of Saanich
State of Biodiversity Report and Biodiversity Conservation Strategy
DHC was hired by the District of Saanich to assess and identify the current state of biodiversity within the district. Natural areas and their characteristics were mapped, ground-truthed, and analyzed. The findings of this assessment have been summarised within a State of Biodiversity report and accompanying maps illustrating habitat types and biodiversity rankings. This highlights areas offering high biodiversity and identifies major threats to these areas.
The second phase of this project included the development of a habitat connectivity network and a Biodiversity Conservation Strategy. It addresses policy, management, and stewardship opportunities to protect, restore, and enhance biodiversity in the district in the future.
