Identification & Evaluation of Environmentally Sensitive Areas
Diamond Head has updated the Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA) report and supporting Development Permit Areas for the City of Terrace. The original ESA report was developed in 1998. In the last 23 years, the City of Terrace has significantly expanded, adding Fairy Island and 3,897 hectares of land located south of the Skeena River to the municipal boundaries. Diamond Head staff surveyed the natural areas and ESAs in Terrace during the summer of 2021. Prior to fieldwork, LiDAR was used to refine natural area polygons, find the top of bank, and improve watercourse linework. The geospatial mapping and Environmentally Sensitive Areas were then updated using a combination of the two approaches. The Strategy was adopted by Council in January 2023.
